Good evening, dear students, parents, teachers, ladies and gentlemen. Congratulations to Graduating Class of 2016!

These years that you have gone through since the start of High School have changed many things. I would like you to look back to yourself and try to see the person that started here at Alcanta only few years ago. Which dreams and hopes was that person having? How many of them have you make come true with hard work and dedication?

How is the person that you are now, the adult that you have become? Which challenges have you faced during these years, which experiences have transformed you deeply? Which skills and competences have you developed in this time? Times, where you listen to yourself saying, how am I going to make it? And you made it, that is the truth. So from the deepest of my heart I would like to say, congratulations class of the 2016!

You are very lucky to have the best kind of education, you have been exposed to many ideas, influences and challenges that have transformed you. And I mean it, in this very same city, you have sons and daughters of migrant workers that came to Guangzhou from many other cities and villages following their parents when they found a job here. These kids are not even allowed to attend a school because, their parents dont have a HuKou 户口valid residence here. They will not even have the chance to get an elementary education, a university degree or an MBA.

So you are very lucky indeed. Of course this education will keep shaping you in the future and many of your opportunities will be created and open because of the education that you have received here.

This is a moment for celebration to enjoy the feeling of success and for pausing for a second, and imagine wildly how would you like to be in the future. Because all possibilities are open in front of you.

To help you with that I am going to share two stories:

In the first story please mentally picture yourself attending the funeral of a loved one. Imagine yourself driving your car to the place where the funeral takes place, parking your car and getting out. While you are walking inside you see the flowers, the soft music of the organ playing. You can see the faces of friends and relatives. You can feel the shared sadness for the loss and the happiness to have met the deceased that irradiates from all people present there.

When you arrive close to the coffin and look inside, suddenly you find out that it is yourself the one inside. This is your very own funeral, that will be happening in 5 years. All these people have come to honour you for the last time, to express appreciation and loving feelings for you.

When you take a seat you look to the program in your hand. There will be four speakers. The first one belongs to your family (closest and distant relatives that have come from all corners of the world). The second speaker is one of your friends, someone that can speak about you as a person. The third speaker is a classmate or colleague. The fourth speaker comes from your community organization where you served or the charity organization where your volunteer.

Now think deeply. What would you like that each of these speakers say about you and your life? What kind of son, daughter or cousin would you like that their words showed? What kind of wife or husband, mother or father? What kind of friend? What kind of classmate or colleague?

What character would you like that they have seen in you? What kind of contributions, achievements would you like that they remember? Look carefully to the people surrounding you there. How would you have liked to have influenced their lives? Take a minute to think about it.

My first story is a self-reflection exercise.

The second is a real story about a 15 years old kid named Anurudh Ganesan.

He wrote: As an infant, I experienced first-hand what last-leg vaccinations can mean for the many thousands who require it.

My grandparents carried me nearly 10 miles to have me vaccinated, only to find out when they arrived that the vaccinations were no longer effective. I was fortunate. For many, that trek to be vaccinated is a matter of life and death.

My subsequent research motivated me to find a better and more reliable way to transport vaccines to remote locations in developing countries throughout the world. Last-leg vaccine transportation to remote locations has long been a logistically challenging phase of vaccine delivery to millions in dire need of vaccinations.

Because of the dependency on both ice-packs and electricity, the vaccines can arrive either too hot or too cold, rendering them completely ineffective. According to the World Health Organization, in 2013 there were approximately 1.5 million children who died as a result of not receiving the appropriate and effective vaccines.

Taking into account the very serious limitations associated with current methodologies, I set out to design and develop a "No Ice, No Electric" vaccine transportation system which is unique and innovative. Based on intensive test results in the lab, I am now capable of successfully executing cold chain delivery in the last-leg (2-8°C) without compromising the integrity of the vaccines, ensuring intact and effective vaccinations to those urgently needing it now.

Anurudhs No Ice, No Electricvaccine transportation system, which hes dubbed VAXXWAGON, is, in essence, a vapour compression refrigeration unit.

Requiring very little power to operate, it can maintain the necessary temperature range of two to eight degrees (Celsius) within which vaccinations are safe, all from the minimal energy created by human or animal movement.

Ganesan, who studied with a number of college professors to help with the VAXXWAGONs creation, was the winner of the global 谷歌s 2015 Science Fair, where he took home the LEGO Education Builder Award.

It?s safe to say that Ganesans invention, for which he is in the process of both patenting and perfecting, could very well make the difference between life and death in remote communities around the world.

At that time Ganesan was 15, he was not having the kind of education that you already have, not having the same resources, knowledge, or even experience. The only thing that he was having at that time was a dream, a desire to help. The desire to contribute to the community and make life better for every kid in his village and also in the entire world.

It is because he was having that desire, to make life better for many kids like him, that he did not stop because he was not fully prepared yet. He is a great example that, we are never too young to make a difference, to make life better, to pay back to the community that has given us the chance to become who we are.

Many of the most important challenges and problems that we currently have and face, can not be solved by governments, there are many and sometimes unknown. They will be solved by individuals like you, like Ganesan did. You have much more resources than he had, and the chance to make many contributions to make things better in your community, in your city.

Start with what is next to you, those issues that you see every day and think, how can you use all the things you learnt, and the skills you have developed to make them better?

Real winners in life are those who walk into every situation with an expectation that they can make it work or make it better.

So I would like to end with a question. How would you like to be remembered? How would you like to live your life so you leave a better place than you found? What impact would you like to have created in the community that you come from, in your city, country or even the world?
