School Postponement

Dear students, parents and teachers,

As per the government guidelines schools will be closed at least until the end of March. In the interest of all school stakeholders, we have decided on the following changes (there may be further changes to the below plan depending on recommendations from the Education Bureau and decisions by other international schools in the region):
DP2 Students: o All DP2 students will return to school dormitory on April 10th in the afternoon (earliest check in time would be 4 pm; please do not arrive before this time).  o DP2 students will have their Mock Exams scheduled from Saturday, April 11, 2020 until Sunday, April 19, 2020.   o Mock Exam schedules will be released next week.  o International students (who are out of China) must return to Guangzhou on either March 25 or 26 to serve their 14-day quarantine.  o Dorm staff to return to dorm on March 24 to prepare for student return. o DP2 students will not be allowed to return home until after their IB exams have ended. o DP2 students will have normal classes until Wednesday, April 29, 2020. o DP2 students will have self-study/review day on Thursday, April 30, 2020. o IB exams begin in the afternoon of May 1, 2020. First exam is Business & Management.
DP1 and Pre-Diploma Students:

o Online classes will continue until Friday, April 10, 2020.  o Online classes will continue as usual next week (March 9-13, 2020).  o All DP1 and Pre-DP students will have a 5-day break from online studies (from April 13-17, 2020). o DP1 and Pre-Diploma students will check into school dorm on April 19, 2020 in the afternoon. o Classes will resume on April 20th.

o International students (from outside of Mainland China) must return to Guangzhou before April 5, 2020 to serve their 14-day quarantine before being allowed into classes.
Other Changes:
o Three Way conferences scheduled for April 1 and 2 will be moved to Friday, April 3, 2020. These will be online. o Art Exhibition date will be announced after we have all returned to school. o April 29 and April 30 will be school days. School will only be closed on May 1 for all Pre-DP and DP1 students. This is the first day of IB Exams so DP2 students will be on campus.
Contact Us for Support:
If you have any questions about your lessons, contact your teachers through email or on Teams. If you have general questions (for Pre DP) message Heidi at hrhodes@aicib.org. For all DP questions, message Navnita at nkarmakar@aicib.org. For any student-welfare and dorm related questions, please contact Paddy at pgililland@aicib.org.
Attendance matters:
Make sure you are logged into your classes at the right time and that you are present. Attendance will be taken and those who are absent will be considered unexcused unless the absence has been cleared by Paddy in advance. Contact him if you are unable to attend classes due to illness. Paddy’s email address is pgilliland@aicib.org.
Lessons/Assignments:
All lessons/assignments will be graded so it is important that students complete their tasks on time. If you have any questions about your lessons/assignments, please email your teacher right away. Those who are absent and do not have an excused pass or note from Paddy will NOT be allowed to take a test or quiz upon return or get a grade for a missing assignment.

Mobile Phones and Other Such Devices:
Mobile phones can be a distraction, and research shows that they can have a negative effect on attention. We encourage parents to collect phones during study hours and make sure that their children are awake for their first periods starting at 8 in the morning. Also, it would help if you made sure your children are in their beds at 11 at night according to their school lights out schedule—younger students might have earlier bedtimes. We would like our students to experience life as they would at school. Your support with this would be highly appreciated.
Lights-out:
Also, it would help if you made sure your children are able to get the full 8 hours of sleep they need (and recommended by science).  Lights out while at school is 10pm for PDP1, 2, 3 and 11 for PDP4 and DP students.
Staying Safe:
It is important that you take good care of yourself. Follow advice provided by health agencies and wash your hands frequently.
Please look after yourselves and take every measure to stay safe. We wish all of you and your families good health and hope to see all of you return to school safely.

Regards,
David Cao & Bob Darwish
