A Lot More Fun Just Before the Break

At AIC, the last week of school does not only mean catching up with school assignments and sitting for the term examinations, it also means celebrating a semester of hard work and getting ready for Christmas. Organized by the Student Council and led by Sheryl, a Casino –themed ball party on Thursday helped lit up everyone’s spirit and allowed students to express their youth exuberance before the Christmas celebration.
The highlight of the week was the unprecedented Casino Royale held on Thursday night. Students were asked to dress up in black and white suits with bowties. And some of them did a pretty good job as they walked down the red carpet decorated with candles, and posing with much character and confidence. The MPR was well transformed into a Casino with Christmas ornaments and neon lights, while ginger man cookies, finger food and fruit juice were served at the atrium. After dinner, students danced their night off to the beat of Bollywood, hip-hop, house, pop and rock music with disco lights shining in every direction. It was definitely a crazy night to be remembered.
On Friday, everyone attended the last assembly of 2014 to celebrate Christmas in advance. It was Matt and Edward’s mentor group to present and students Ivy and Zach are MCs. Student council, on behalf of the school, extended their gratitude to the three house cleaners, who have been working hard to keep our classrooms and dorms so clean and tidy. The gift and thanks-giving firstly opened a prelude to the assembly, after this, the chief editor of NOW, ZeCheng Wang, took the stage by inviting all the teachers and students who have contributed their time and effort in making this excellent student newspaper possible, to come to the stage. With waves of applauds, the appreciation and gratitude were extended to them all. Following this it was time for talent shows. Mentees from this group performed a small drama, called “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” telling a story that Santa Clause helps two thieves to give up evil and return to be good persons and they celebrate the Christmas with all the villages. The students came up with their own creative plots. Although with limited time for rehearsal, the students did pretty well with their humorous acting and expressive narration.
Yifan brought his guitar with him and sang the brilliant song “Counting Stars”
Just as the students were still intrigued by his performance, Mr. Santa Claus, dressed up by David,Cao, the CEO of AIC, made his grand appearance, distributing lots of candies to students. The show came to an end with “Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ and David’s wishes that all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The assembly definitely ended the first semester on a great note by bridging the bond between teachers, students and staff together and bringing out the positive energy in everybody.
