Research on the IB Programme effectiveness

The IBO conducts and reviews research regularly. Here are some key points of recent findings on how the IB helps prepare students for success by creating university- and career-ready global citizens:
The key points are:
IB graduates are more likely to persist through university
IB students are prepared for university -level coursework
IB students graduate with a sense of civic responsibility
IB students demonstrate strong critical thinking skills
And
The IB prepares students from around the world to attend top universities
It is particularly interesting to read that a series of research studies from McGill University (Canada), University of Warwick (UK), and the University of Virginia (USA) found that the DP extended essay prepares IB graduates to be successful in higher education research. This should be of comfort to our students who have worked very hard on their essays which are being sent for marking now.
Other research conducted by the University of Western Sydney(Australia) suggests that Diploma Programme students are more confident in their ability to use critical thinking skills than their non-IB peers, and that DP students envision their future educational success more positively. We see this development in our students very clearly. At the start of the programme few students have useful critical thinking skills but their skills gradually increase as does their confidence.
And of additional interest researchers from the University of Hong Kong found that a majority of students who graduated from IB programmes in China between 2002 and 2012 attended one of the world’s top 500 universities.
So parents and students you have made a wise choice of programme for the university years ahead!
