Courses vs. Diploma

Dear parents and students,
All students enrolled at AIC are considered to be potential IB Diploma students. If part way through the Diploma programme it becomes evident that this goal is unattainable or unsuitable for the student, counselling with the student and parents on the programme will occur.
Monitoring
Throughout the Diploma programme student achievement and approaches to learning are monitored via the reporting system and anecdotal evidence from faculty.
Changing to the Courses Programme In general AIC expects a student to at least complete the first year of the DP programme before transferring to a Courses programme.
Discussion will occur with students of concern and each student will be treated completely individually.
AIC requirements The requirements for eligibility for graduation from AIC and for suitable university application need to be considered at every step.
AIC expects all Courses students to participate fully in CAS and to make an informed but personal decision about participation in EE and TOK.
The number of subjects should remain at 6, but this is a choice each student and their parents, in consultation with the Directors, will make. Students may do all Standard Level subjects, but this will impact on university applications so needs to be carefully considered.
Students who opt for the Courses programme will be allocated supervised study periods where the supervisor will monitor their personal study in order to help them to attain their goals.
