TOK Report

As part of their TOK requirements, students are expected to complete an oral presentation. In this presentation, students are expected to apply TOK concepts and ideas to a real life situation of their choosing. The grade that the student receives for this presentation will account for a third of their final TOK grade. One of the main purposes of the presentation is to highlight to students the importance of how the ideas they study in the classroom relate to the world around them. This, indeed, is one of the defining characteristics of the IB DP Program at large.
In November, all DP 2 TOK students attended a weekend camp held at the school in order to help them complete their oral presentations. Although some students had previously completed their presentations, most worked over a period of three days on this assignment. Much of the first two days of the camp was dedicated to preparing the presentation, while the last day of the camp was reserved for the actual presentations.
In the end, all students successfully completed their presentations and demonstrated marked improvement compared to the practice presentations that they gave during their first year of the Diploma Program. Indeed, their teacher was truly proud of their effort. Their topics were varied, although many focused on the way in which culture shapes our understanding of the world.
Now, all DP2 students must focus on their TOK essays. It is imperative that they do well on this assessment, as it will heavily determine their final IB TOK grade. At present, students have selected their topics and are in the process of writing draft papers. The final IB essay will be due early during the second semester.
